The 29ers is a weekly profile of startups in the Think 29 area. This week, we interview Jake Joraanstad, co-founder and CEO of Myriad Mobile in Fargo.
1. Give us a short description of your business.
With no signs of slowing down, Myriad Mobile is at the leading edge of developing Mobile Apps and Web Apps to meet the business challenges of big and small enterprises, and non-profit organizations too. With more than 150 projects in its growing portfolio, Myriad’s expertise in native mobile apps for iOS, Android, and Windows 8 mobile devices is helping customers to increase their product and service offerings, streamline critical processes, and expand brand awareness. Just ask national brands such as Microsoft and Bobcat and regional brands like Minnesota Public Radio and Sanford Health. Myriad’s industry experience extends to verticals such as consumer goods, healthcare, insurance, broadcast media, retail, agriculture, and more. And these customers have come to rely on Myriad Mobile for strategy, consulting, mobile training, and integration as well as specialties including Machine-to-Mobile (M2Mo), mobile payment, mobile CMS, retail iBeacons, and interfaces with ERP and CRM applications.
2. What motivated you to start this business?
I love technology. I wanted to do something of my own, and school was boring! When new mobile tech (iOS and Android) hit the market and apps began to take over, we went for it.
3. What’s the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome as you’ve grown Myriad?
Overcoming myself really. The biggest challenge for an entrepreneur that is becoming a real CEO is to learn to delegate and be OK with giving up some control to a team that is probably better at those things than you are!
4. What sets Myriad aside from others in the field?
We are 100% focused on being the best mobile software design and development firm in the US. We started with a pure focus on mobile technology, and that’s where we’ll stay. We like to call ourselves “masters of mobile.” Having a vision of where you want to be in 5 years is very important for the long term success of a company.
5. Why should a customer choose your business?
We believe mobile software can completely revolutionize the way people do business. We are the best in the field, we care a LOT about our customers’ success. Lastly, we have an incredible team of designers, engineers, and mobile strategists that is big team to take on anything you want to throw our way.
6. What keeps your customers coming back?
Our dedication to their success. We make sure what we build works great, and that it consistently is meeting their needs. But beyond that, we bring innovation to their thinking. We come back with better ideas to help them move forward each time.
7. What geographic region do you serve?
We serve the greater US market, and now we are working in Canada. We haven’t focused too much internationally yet, we are focusing here first.
8. What about your business makes you the most proud?
The team and our ability to adapt through the rapid growth we are experiencing. Oh, and the awesome products we build for our customers every day!
9. What are some future goals for your company?
Our #1 goal is to become a top 3 national mobile software firm in the next 3-5 years.
10. What does this mean to your community as well as the Think 29 communities?
It means we’ll be bringing jobs, innovation, and a focus on the technology industry to our region. We are hoping to make waves in the news about a “crazy group of people in Fargo building a national mobile company!”.
11. What can the Think 29 community help you with?
Supporting our efforts, telling others about us, and sending great talent our way when you know someone looking for their next opportunity!
